Footsteps echoing off the cobblestone walkway, Vincent Nightray made his way through the dark alley. He could barely see the path in front of him, but he didn’t seem to mind. His eyelids were drooping slightly over his eyes, one golden and the other wine red. His usual deadly smile painted his lips. It hid the slight panic he felt at having been transported somewhere obviously not from his world without his elder brother Gilbert. He had arrived there quite recently; the whole event had scared him near to death. Vincent had thought he was being dragged into the Abyss, the realm inhabited by chains, when the darkness had surrounded him. He knew the incuse on his chest from his chain Demios hadn’t made a full revolution yet, and was quite confused at the time. Now, after speaking with some of the other inhabitants of the city, had discovered he was in a different world entirely. This one was called Traverse Town, as it seemed. Someone had explained to him that he ended up here because his world was destroyed. The thought sent shivers down Vincent’s spine. If his world was destroyed, then did that mean Gilbert, his precious elder brother, had been destroyed with it? He tried to tell himself that Gilbert survived it, just like he had, and simply ended up in another world. Gilbert would be able to live a happy life in the new world without his younger brother, just as Vincent had wanted from the beginning.
Vincent sighed. He hadn’t been away from Gilbert for very long, but he missed him. He couldn’t stop thinking about his elder brother. Then again, Gilbert was virtually all he thought about in the first place. His brother’s well being was Vincent’s reasoning behind everything he did; all of his actions were for Gil’s benefit. Lost in thought, Vincent walked straight into a crate lying to the side in the alley and caught the toe of his black dress shoe on the edge. He pitched forward, toppling into a heap on the cobblestone. He grimaced and sat up, peering closely at his long black jacket and noticed he had ripped a hole in it around his left knee. Vincent frowned. He glanced around wondering if anyone had noticed him fall, but not a soul was present in the alleyway. He dragged himself off the ground, pushing himself up with white gloved hands. He collapsed on top of the crate and leaned back against the stone building. He wondered briefly if maybe he could use one of his chains, Demios or Dormouse, to take him through the Abyss and back to his world. He immediately waved off the thought. The Abyss was connected to his world, not the world Traverse Town resided in. His home world had probably been destroyed anyway. Vincent heaved another sigh and closed his eyes.
Stuck in another world without Gil or a way home. The thought wasn’t very appealing to Vincent. But at least he had gotten what he had wanted in the end. His brotherif he was even still alive could live happily without him. As his mind wandered, Vincent began feeling increasingly groggy. He pried open his sleep-filled eyes and caught sight of the Dormouse’s tail encircling him. Vincent groaned. Of course, now of all times, he had lost focus on the seal on his chain. The seal had released, and the chain was now putting him to sleep. Vincent knew there was no stopping it now. He closed his eyes, sinking back against the cold stone wall. I hope no one comes this way and finds me like this, was the last thoughs that ran through his mind before he fell asleep. The Dormouse was completely visible now, encircling the sleeping Vincent with its tail. Its small paws perched on the air over his head. Its eyes were stitched shut, giving it the appearance of being in a deep sleep as well. However, it was well on guard, alertly waiting for potential attackers while its Contractor slept.

History:
Naoki was born to Kazuhiko Ayugai and Alexandria Griffiths on December 13th. When they met, Alexandria was living in England as a café waitress; Kazuhiko was visiting on business—for the yakuza, which he was secretly a part of. They fell in love and had an affair. Naoki was the product of said affair. However, the love was short-lived, and Kazuhiko returned to Japan before Naoki was born, completely abandoning Alexandria with their child. She didn’t make too much money working as a waitress in a small, unknown café, and struggled to support her son on her own. Alexandria didn’t have any family she could rely on for financial assistance. When Naoki was seven, his mother fell very ill. She ended up passing away a month later, leaving Naoki all alone. Right before he was going to be shipped off to an orphanage, Kazuhiko arrive suddenly in England to claim him as his son. Naoki was then taken back to Japan with his father.
Kazuhiko was a stereotypical yakuza member, with the sunglasses and colorful suits. He was a part of the Yamamoto-Kai, one of the bigger yakuza gangs. However, on the outside, he posed as the CEO of a very successful company. Of course, he dragged his son right into the world of the yakuza. As a child, Naoki ended up being dragged on countless yakuza-related missions and business. He even witnessed his own father murder and threaten people. By age fifteen, he had grown quite spiteful towards his father. First the man had abandoned his own son, then forcibly dragged him into the world of the yakuza. Naoki would have preferred to just stay out of it.
When Naoki turned eighteen, his father attempted to force him into becoming a part of the Yamamoto-Kai. Naoki, however, refused. His father was greatly angered by this and kicked Naoki out. Naoki had already gotten a scholarship to a very prestigious school and lived in the dorms there, away from his father. As a child, Naoki had always wanted to be an educator. By this point in his life, he didn’t much like kids (unless it was a cute little boy), but he didn’t have any career paths that interested him, and so stuck with that. Kazuhiko died when Naoki was twenty in a car accident, or so he was told. Naoki suspected he had died of a different, gang-related cause. Graduating college several years later, Naoki ended up becoming the head of the literature program at Gaikoku no Akademi.
