the freezing dawn, the parched midday, Xeno Fuse hated overtime. He did not like having to work past the time allotted for the school day. All the students went back to their dorms as soon as classes were over and were free to do as they pleased. Fuse thought he should be free too. He was the head of the literature program, after all. He didn’t teach any classes or direct any after school clubs, so he had all day to do his work. He didn’t see why he was forced to continue filling out paperwork and such after the students were off. It wasn’t like he was a teacher with papers to grade or anything. He was past that point. Fuse had been promoted to program head two years before and had hoped that promotion would mean no more overtime. How wrong he had been.
A deep frown painted his face as he made his way across the courtyard, leather briefcase in hand. The briefcase was heavy and overloaded with paperwork. He had just gotten out of another stupid meeting. All these meetings, and not much actually getting done. He hated that. The school seemed to be all talk and no action. Sitting there for two hours listening to the other administrators sounding like a bunch of worthless imbeciles wasn’t something he wanted to be doing during the evening. That, and he had missed dinner for it. His stomach grumbled irritably; he hadn’t eaten a thing since breakfast. Fuse stomped his way back in the direction of the building that contained his office, black dress shoes clacking loudly against the stone walkway. He couldn’t wait to get back and finish up his work so he could collapse in bed. His dorm, however, was in a separate building. He wasn’t looking forward to marching across campus in the dark.
Irritably, he lifted his arm and push back the sleeves of his black sweater and button-down shirt. The face of his black watch read eight o’clock. Fuse scowled. He should be relaxing in his dorm at this time. However, he still had about two hours’ worth of work to get done before he could head back to his room. Ridiculous! He shook his head. His jet black hair didn’t even twitch as he swung his head back and forth; he had doused it with hairspray that morning to make sure it stayed perfect and professional all day long.
Still looking down, Fuse took the left side of his glasses between his fingers and pushed the glasses up on his nose, a habitual motion he had acquired years ago. He blinked his mossy green eyes, and as he did so, noticed a pair of feet coming up in front of him. Before he had time to react, he felt himself walking straight into another person. His briefcase dropped out of his hand. It thumped to the floor beside him. Fuse stumbled backwards, grumbling crossly. Without really looking at the other person, and believing them to be a student, he growled, “What the hell is the matter with you? Watch where you are going, you stupid child!” He glared up through the lenses of his glasses. Immediately, he realized his mistake. This was no student; it was another teacher.

She looked at the ring on her finger and started humming. She'd had a successful day and taught her choir students the first new song for the year. Not only that, the therapy for the day went well too. All she had to do later was finish up some paperwork. She knew it wouldn't take too long.
She shut her eyes for just a moment and they flew open when the person collided with her. She blinked carefully when he screamed, obviously thinking she was a student. She couldn't help but laugh. "Xeno, it seems like you have some anger issues there. I can give you a therapy session for free, if you want." Her think British accent stood out when she spoke.
Rose knew most of the teachers in the school, and liked many of them. Xeno Fuse was different. He wasn't the kind that wanted to interact with the other teachers during meetings or even wanted to talk after. It was almost like he was forced to be at the school.
The wind blew and she zipped up her jacket. "Are you alright? I mean you look okay..." she asked, just remembering they just bumped into each other.
"That meeting was pretty pointless wasn't it? It seems like they repeat the same stuff daily..." [/b] she shook her head. "I dont mind though.. I like the opportunity to talk to everyone. the freezing dawn, the parched midday, The look of surprise on Xeno‘s face was fleeting. His expression immediately fell back into a glare. Fuse opened his mouth to make another rude comment at the site of Rose Fair, despite knowing she was a teacher, but snapped it shut again. It wouldn’t be very professional for him to snap at a fellow administrator. He bent down and quickly retrieved his briefcase from the ground to distract himself from all the nasty things he thought to say. He dusted it off, then rolled down the sleeves of his white button-down shirt and his sweater back over the watch on his wrist. He frowned at the sound of Rose laughing.
"Xeno, it seems like you have some anger issues there. I can give you a therapy session for free, if you want."
He scowled at the offer. Stiffly, he replied, “No. That will not be necessary, Fair-san.” Fuse paused, and then suddenly realized: she hadn’t used any honorifics with him! It was quite obvious she was a foreigner like most of the academy, what with her thick British accent, but that was no excuse. She was in Japan. She lived here. She should know all of the customs by this point. He adjusted his glasses, peering through the lenses at the other teacher. “And I would prefer it if you addressed me by my last name, with honorifics, Fair-san. You are in Japan, you know. It’s good manners.” His voice had grown harsh. He didn’t take too kindly to people calling him by his first name, and without honorifics to boot.
"Are you alright? I mean, you look okay..."
Rose seemed to just remember that they had bumped into each other. Fuse’s scowl deepened. “Yes, I am fine, thank you.” His thanks sounded stiff, and not at all sincere. He adjusted his glasses again for the umpteenth time. He was feeling antsy; he did not, in any way want to be spending his valuable time here talking to Rose. He had more important matters to be attending to. Like paperwork, for instance. He would much rather do paperwork than converse with another teacher.
"That meeting was pretty pointless, wasn't it? It seems like they repeat the same stuff daily... I don’t mind though. I like the opportunity to talk to everyone. But you don’t talk much… Maybe one day we should get coffee or something before classes start."
Her smile was utterly sickening. He wanted to smack it right off the Brit’s face. Go for coffee, with her? The mere thought was even more sickening than the girl’s silly grin. He didn’t care about other people. He wanted nothing to do with them. He wasn’t working at the academy to socialize with his fellow staff members; he was there to please Daddy Dearest. That had always been his reasoning for doing things. Even though his father was long dead, he still did what would please his father. Nothing was pleasing to Fuse anymore. He noted that she agreed with his thoughts on the pointlessness of their meetings, but didn’t truly care about her opinion. Her thoughts on the matter did not interest him in the least, whether she agreed or not. Not even attempting to be polite, he stated flatly, “No.” Without giving her time to respond, he said, “Now, I should be on my way. I have important matters to attend to.” Briefcase in hand, he made a move to walk around her and head towards the building that housed his office.

Somehow, she’d known he would. She was a little upset when he corrected her though. That was something she didn’t like in people. Especially when it was done in such a rude manner. “I apologize, Fuse-san.” She muttered, emphasizing the honorifics, and adding an eye roll. It wasn’t like she’d insulted him or something. He didn’t have to be so rude about it.
She nodded politely when he said he was alright after he bumped into her. There was no other way to reply, although she was shocked he didn’t ask her the same thing. She shook her head, clearing that thought.
Rose knew most of the teachers in the school, and liked many of them. Xeno Fuse was different. He wasn't the kind that wanted to interact with the other teachers during meetings or even wanted to talk after. It was almost like he was forced to be at the school.
Rose would have dropped all of those other things, if he hadn’t replied so rudely to her asking to get coffee. “No? That’s it?” She grabbed his shoulder as he made a move to leave. “Even if you didn’t want to, you don’t have to be so cruel about it. A ‘no, thank you’ would have been much nicer.” She frowned. “And you don’t have to correct me so rudely either. It’s very impolite. You should know that. I was just trying to be nice”
S [/b]he was an adult. She expected to be treated with respect. She hadn’t treated Xeno Fuse rudely at all. In fact, Rose was sure she’d been very nice to him, even though she’d never truly spoken with him before.. "Do you have a problem with me or something, Fuse-san? Have I done something wrong that you need to be so mean to me?” She said, letting go of his arm. “What important things do you have to run off to, anyway? The day is over.” At this point, her voice had been raised, though she wasn’t quite yelling yet. Rose didn’t understand what she had done wrong. She stuffed her hands in her jean pockets and looked up at the dark sky. Her husband would be waiting for her, and she couldn’t stay talking to Xeno anymore. Especially if he was going to treat her horribly. the freezing dawn, the parched midday, “I apologize, Fuse-san.”
Fuse didn’t even react at the obvious emphasis on the honorific. He ignored the visible roll of her eyes. Rose sounded upset, but it was her own fault. If she was going to continue living in Japan, she needed to get used to all their customs and culture. Fuse himself had lived in Greece for a lot of his life, but even so, he still knew all of the culture and customs. It was mostly because his Japanese father had forced it all on him after he went to live with the man when his mother died. But still. Rose had been living in Japan for how long now? As a teacher? And yet she still didn’t use honorifics? Fuse found her ignorance utterly embarrassing.
“No? That’s it? Even if you didn’t want to, you don’t have to be so cruel about it. A ‘no, thank you’ would have been much nicer. And you don’t have to correct me so rudely either. It’s very impolite. You should know that. I was just trying to be nice.”
As he had made to walk around her, he felt her grab onto his shoulder to hold him back. He turned his head, narrowed eyes glaring at the other teacher over his shoulder. “Excuse me? And that gives you the right to put your filthy hand on me?” He scowled at Rose’s hand on his arm. Rose was in a Japanese school and didn’t use honorifics. She had been just begging to be corrected. That, and his patience had run thin by this time of day. He didn’t have it in him to be nice. “I do not enjoy socializing over coffee. It’s a waste of my time. I do not work here to make friends.” His scowl deepened. He didn’t need to waste his time being scolded by this girl. How he spoke to people was none of her concern. The toe of his black dress shoe tapped impatiently against the stone walkway.
"Do you have a problem with me or something, Fuse-san? Have I done something wrong that you need to be so mean to me? What important things do you have to run off to, anyway? The day is over.”
Snickering harshly, he said, “I have a problem with all of the imbeciles working at this blasted school.” He heard her voice raising, knew he was really ticking her off. But, of course, it was her own fault for getting upset so easily. Fuse swiftly pulled his arm away as she released her grip on him. He then rolled up the sleeve of his sweater once again to peer at his watch. It was getting later. Rose was wasting his time. “Actually, the day is not over, because, unlike you, I still have a lot of paperwork to complete.” He patted his bulging briefcase. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, Fair-san,” he began, putting plenty of emphasis on the honorific, “I will be going now.” He turned to leave again. Fuse had a feeling he wouldn’t get far before the other teacher got all mad again.
